The rest of the story ...
This project involved a waterfront property with predefined boundaries for the structure which resulted in the homeowners sacrificing the lake views from the kitchen, and reserving them for the great room. The homeowners understood that regardless of magnificent views from other areas of the house, family and guests congregate in the kitchen. Additionally, one of the primary entrances to the home entered into the "landlocked" kitchen. The objective was to design the project in such a way that people entering were awestruck by the room itself.
The homeowners wanted the design to focus on simplicity, functionality, and elegance. The varying heights of the cabinetry against the adjacent moldings and high ceilings became the focal point. While the majority of the lighting is functional, the in-cabinet lighting steals the show in the evenings.
Cary's favorite aspect is the hutch wall. The door openings to the left and right of this section are part of a long visual line (almost hallway like) from the front to the back of the residence. The hutch cabinets conjoin this hallway-like area with the kitchen.

Very beautiful colors.
Used a long space well.
Beautiful use of details. It is obvious that a lot of planning and thought went into every aspect of the cabinetry in this kitchen.
I love the balance of materials and finishes - the space is light and bright, but also warm and traditional. Photos are great.
The decorative glass doors work well with the simpler door style and are a great detail with the size/scale of the room. The light and open feeling in the room fulfill the homeowners desire to create a gathering spot.
The size and lightness of the room create a very welcoming room. The granite - that was pre-chosen - works well with the cabinetry.
Even though the appliances are all together, it works well with having a large and social island. I like the "bar" with the microwave and wine rack - good location by the island.
Good looking and functioning kitchen.
