The objective was to update the kitchen in this 100-year-old home while keeping it cohesive to the adjacent spaces. Storage was an issue and every available inch needed to be maximized. There was also a desire to have a separate microwave area that would be "his" space while the rest of the kitchen would be "hers." They also wanted an island in the design.
With multiple entrances into the small kitchen and a floor that was far from level, there were challenges to the space planning part of this project.
Ultimately, all concerns were overcome. The finished design created a space for "him" and a space for "her" that worked well. The large crown molding was held down, away from the ceiling to create a shadow and conceal that it was not level. The owners loved the storage space they gained and a custom-designed portable island.
Completed by Maile Build, Remodel & Design in Crescent Springs, KY, this beautiful project was a 2019 Showplace Cabinetry National Award Winner – 2nd Place Transitional Kitchen Design.
