A company that cares about people before metrics

From Paul’s Desk

By Paul Sova, CEO of Showplace Cabinetry

This is my final edition of these monthly notes before turning this space over to incoming CEO Bill Allen in January. Sharing my thoughts about Showplace Cabinetry and the things that make our company unique in this industry has been a great experience—one that has given me the opportunity to focus on the Showplace culture that I’ve tried to create over the years I have been CEO.

As I walk through our production spaces, which I try to do each day, I see so many familiar faces—people who have joined our company for a job and discovered a family. That’s what I will miss most upon my retirement this month, those daily reminders that Showplace is a company that cares about people.

One of the first things I learned when I became CEO of Showplace was that it’s necessary to work to create the corporate environment you think is best. I wanted to shape Showplace to be an organization where people care about each other and care about the company they work for. It all comes down to making your company a place where people feel a part of something that’s bigger than themselves, and where all work has value.

That was the vision I had when I stepped into the leadership position—a position in which I could bring that vision to life. Being an employee-owned company has been a big part of our success in building a company culture that values each individual. I believe that you can’t just run a business based on metrics. My position has been that the increases in sales, in quality and in customer service will happen if people are involved in their company and expected to participate in its success. We’ve proven here at Showplace Cabinetry that these values work.

Our company enters the new year with an experienced team of seasoned leaders at the helm. I hope I’ve planted the seed that will continue to grow and take our company on a track of valuing its people and encouraging excellent communication and great relationships with employee-owners, vendors and customers. That company culture has been our roadmap to success.
