THE REST OF THE STORY ...

This was a very large project involving multiple rooms and a garage enclosure. The primary goal was to open up the kitchen to allow for a large gathering place and for entertaining. The look had to be sophisticated, classic, timeless, and just simple, elegant. The homeowner had lots of inspiration photos that needed to be considered.

The initial challenge was the layout. They had an existing 60" commercial range that needed to stay, but where, was the question. It initially was built in to this brick cove area and the big concern was if the team relocated it, where would it look best. The team also struggled with how much of the original brick to keep. There is also an existing brick fireplace that was staying and needed to be designed into the space. The appliance list was also challenging in that they wanted two large refrigerators as well as a wine fridge with two dishwashers, a built-in microwave, and a warming drawer. And let's not forget an area for coffee.

Once the design team had all the parameters to work with, it was just a big game of Jenga. The team decided to make the range the focal point of the kitchen by placing it centered on the existing windows. The team moved the main sink into the island and flanked it with dishwashers on each side. The two refrigerators were anchored on the end and opposite that was the coffee station complete with roll out shelf inside. Over behind the existing brick fireplace was turned into the beverage/hutch entertainment area. The team increased the height of the backsplash here to allow for large drink containers and small appliances. The island was simple, yet included the traditional posts to dress it up as well as the decorative feet at the sink base.

The homeowners love their space. She shares that no detail was spared. She said it is everything she envisioned and then some. It is elegant, yet easy to work in and meets all of her daily needs as well as the need of an entertainer. She has also referred several of her friends to the design team and that is the ultimate compliment.

The design team has many favorite parts of this kitchen. One is the hutch/wine area. They love how it serves as a separate space, but still feels like a part of the kitchen. The Sterling door style is so simple, yet classic, paired with White paint. It is just clean and simple. Another detail that the team had never done before, they used a solid white quartz on the perimeter countertop and then used a marble look quartz on the island and full-height splash. By using the solid white on the perimeter, it just really set off that splash. The team also loved how they were able to order the appliance panels as doors (no frames) on the refrigerators to create the inset look by using the side panels and adding a horizontal rail to create a frame. And then on the island dishwasher, using an appliance panel with the frame and door. And, in an effort to keep a more transitional look, the team continued the crown molding throughout the home and custom trim around the widows to add a more traditional feel to the space. It truly was a balance of mixing the two styles of modern and traditional to create this transitional space.

The design team knew these homeowners were very detailed and expected a high quality product in the home. With that said, there was no doubt that Showplace was the product to meet their needs. Most of their inspiration photos were inset and the team would have been a fool not to use Showplace. Showplace met every need and with a combination of inset and EVO in another room, they not only delivered what the homeowners wanted, but they did it within budget as well.

It was an absolute pleasure to work with this family. It was a large and long process with many challenging details, but in the end, the team believes, with the help of Showplace, they were able to deliver a quality product that will withstand time. They not only got to work with great people, but were able to develop a friendship and that is the true blessing. They know the homeowner is singing out praises to all of her friends. The team already has more orders all thanks to them.
