The rest of the story ...
This was a very unique project. The clients purchased a log cabin that they were converting to a family home on a horse farm in Milton, Georgia, just outside of Atlanta. The house was originally built by a granddaughter of the Coca-Cola family owners, who built this house to be near her horses. The clients bought it and wanted to remodel it for their family home but it needed a total overhaul. That included building onto the home to add the new section for the kitchen, laundry, pantry and mudroom and adding 1 more bedroom.
The original structure was a log cabin so the new parts had to marry up with the character of the original home. But these clients wanted something very hip and moody that reflected their unique taste and style. They worked with interior designer Lindsay Tarquinio to help select the other materials like the beautiful soapstone countertops on the perimeter, the Quartzite on the island and the moody black matte subway tile on the backsplash. The client is from South Africa so she had hardware handmade from South Africa for her hardware and found those amazing light fixtures from a vendor in Copenhagen and shipped them over. They just bring the space together to be so different and refreshing!
We experienced quite a few challenges with this project. We have new drywall that meets up with existing log cabin timbers so we needed to find a way for the cabinetry to work with the wood timbers instead of those elements fighting each other. Space was limited so we had to maximize the space in each cabinet to give them room for everything they need in their kitchen.
We took advantage of their very high ceilings and made the cabinets extra tall so they have tons of storage in their new kitchen. We also played with color so there is a striking contrast between the dark painted color of the cabinets and the fresh white of the newly painted timbers and the ceilings.
The homeowners are amazed at how rich and big the new kitchen looks! It is a stunner!
We love the colors and the finishes, plus the clever storage built into the cabinetry. And we also love that this client was bold enough to let us do dark on dark on dark! Most people would be terrified of this much drama in one space but we absolutely love it! It is truly one of a kind and the clients love their new kitchen and bar!

This is a STUNNER! Nice work!
Very unique!
Like all the dark elements and how they work with each other. The textures help break it up.
